We took some time last weekend to escape Los Angeles and get in our first camping outing of 2022. We originally planned to do this with my brother and his wife, but they ended up with plans so it was a solo weekend for us. Normally our two pups also come along, but as they are both coneheads right now with skin conditions, we left them at home with the kids.
So this was a true getaway for just us, and it was wonderful. The weather was perfect, down to 43º overnight and only 70º as the high.
We stayed at Oak Grove Campground, a first for us. We like trying out many different camp spots, and as this was only 2 hours from home, it was an easy drive.
This weekend also marked our first time using a deep cycle battery for lighting. We picked up a Weize 100ah deep cycle AGM battery and paired it with my existing inverter to power some LED lights inside and outside the camper. It was so nice to have some simple lighting and not have to deal with lanterns. We've never been able to find a decent lantern that lasted long and didn't blind us.
The campground was decent, tucked into the hills just south of Temecula. The spots were spaced out well, and had decent tables and fire pits. The nearby bathrooms actually had flush toilets, which was nice. There isn't a lot of tree or bush cover between a lot of the spots. We like our privacy, and to feel as though we're not buried in a packed campground. It's not always possible to achieve this, and we're ok with that. This was one of those times.
